In 2020, the capital of Brazil (Brasília) celebrated 60 years of its foundation, and as part of the celebrations, IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) re-edited “A Invenção da Superquadra” (“The Invention of the Superquadra”), a book based on research by professor Matheus Gorovitz and Marcílio Mendes Ferreira, from the University of Brasília.
The architecture of the modernist city, the only architectural planned city in Brazil, was transposed to the bilingual book project (Portuguese and English). A grid capable of articulating essays, interviews, plans and images is behind the more than 500 pages of the publication. The black and white treatment helps the reader navigate through information layers and the red refers to the city soil colour.
